Advisor to KP CM criticizes federal government for politicizing counterterrorism efforts, calls for equal treatment of provinces.

PESHAWAR: Advisor to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Information and Public Relations, Barrister Dr. Saif, has called on the federal government to promptly approve the Terms of Reference (TORs) proposed by the KP government for negotiations with Afghanistan. He stressed that any further delay in approving the TORs would be detrimental to the province’s efforts to address critical issues, including terrorism.

Dr. Saif emphasized that the KP government plans to send a delegation to Afghanistan on an urgent basis, reiterating that the safety and security of the people of KP remain the government’s top priority. He criticized the federal government for politicizing the matter instead of supporting counterterrorism initiatives in the province.

Highlighting what he termed as “double standards,” Dr. Saif pointed out that the federal government has no objections to foreign visits by the Chief Ministers of Punjab and Sindh, yet it is hindering KP’s efforts to engage with Afghanistan on terrorism. He referenced past diplomatic engagements, such as Maryam Nawaz’s “Smog Diplomacy” with India, questioning why KP’s initiative is being blocked.

Dr. Saif warned that the federal government’s unequal treatment of KP is exacerbating the province’s sense of deprivation. He urged the federal authorities to address KP’s grievances and provide the necessary support to effectively combat terrorism, reaffirming that KP is an integral part of Pakistan.

The advisor’s remarks underscore growing tensions between the KP government and federal authorities over the handling of cross-border issues and counterterrorism efforts, with KP seeking greater autonomy and support to address its unique challenges.
